Production mixer Glenn Berkovitz, C.A.S., recently employed
the new Sanken CS-1 Short Shotgun microphone for the hit ABC
series "Karen Sisco."
"We used the CS-1 for dialogue inside a van," explained
Berkovitz. "We were using my favorite, the Sanken CS-3e
shotgun, for exteriors but found ourselves in really cramped
quarters and I swapped it for the CS-1. This new Sanken short
shotgun worked perfectly and the dialogue from the two mics
matched beautifully."
Carla Gugino stars as a smart, tenacious United States marshal
on Miami's Gold Coast in ABC's action-filled drama, "Karen
Sisco." As she pursues dangerous fugitives from the law,
Karen must navigate her way from the dark underbelly of South
Beach nightlife to the sunshine and glitz of Palm Beach highlife,
all while struggling to win the respect of
her fellow officers. The show also stars Academy Award nominee
Robert Forster and award-wining actor/director Bill Duke.
Karen Sisco is from Jersey Television in association with
Universal Network Television.
"Both the CS-1 and the CS-3e have a nice targeted range
without being too pinpointy like a hypercardioid shotgun where
the mic really has to be on a very tight target," added
Berkovitz. "The Sanken shotguns are ideal for episodic
TV, film, and ENG production sound.
